Buddy or boyfriend?

Try our quiz to find out whether he should be your boyfriend or your best friend.

1.You're queuing for tickets, when he starts a conversation with an attractive girl. You:
Shoot him a look that says, "Don't push it" and pull away when he tries to give you a kiss.
Marvel at how far he'll go to score you both a lift home.
Join in the chit-chat and suggest she meets you for a coffee after the show.
Watch him like a hawk; you know the moment your back is turned he'll be asking her out.

2.When his Mother asks when you're getting engaged, he:
picks you up, throws you over his shoulder and tells her the minute you say the word, he's there.
Smiles, pats you on the head and remarks that finding a man worthy of your love is no easy task.
Chokes, "passes out" and pretends to be unconscious until he's alone in the ambulance.
Shifts uncomfortably from foot to foot and mutters that he'll let her know closer to the time.

3.You're driving home from work, get a flat tyre and walk four kilometres to ring him from a public phone. He:
says he's just got to drop his mother off, but will be there as soon as he can.
Tells you not to panic - he's practically already in the car - and promises to buy you a mobile phone during the coming week.
Isn't home and has left a message on the answering machine saying he's gone out with the boys.
Tells you he'll come out if you want, but thinks it might be easier if you just call the emergency road service.

4.When he gives you a dozen red roses, you:
wonder why he buys red when you've already told him that yellow tones look best in your kitchen.
Panic - he must have had an affair.
Are shocked - two bunches in six months; he's really outdoing himself.
Smile to yourself, throw last fortnight's bunch in the bin and arrange the new ones in a vase.

5.When you go out partying with your girlfriends, they:
tell you he's the biggest loser they've ever come across, and suggest it's time for you to move on.
Ask you to bring him along some time.
Demand you bring him and his brothers.
Never speak badly of him, but tend to spend the entire night introducing you to other guys.

6.You tell him your boss has threatened to fire you. He:
suggests that you resign; after all he's more than happy to help support you financially and emotionally until you find another job.
Says it's your decision, but suggests that you talk it over together first.
Offers some of his worldly advice and tells you he's sure you'll work it out.
Demands you lift your game - it's not like the two of you can afford to spend your days lying around on the beach doing nothing.

7.When he talks about the future, you:
  don't rate a mention.
Seem to float casually in and out in his life.
  Are undoubtedly the main event.
Are present, but not a "solid fixture".

8.Which of the following TV couples remind you most of your relationship?
Dharma and Greg in Dharma and Greg.
  Monica and Chandler in Friends.
Grace and Will in Will and Grace.
Fish and Ling in Ally McBeal

9.When he cuddles up to you, you:
always think about having sex with him.
Feel confused - it's so out of character.
Think about having sex, but not necessarily with him.
Secretly wonder if the relationship will always be as romantic as this.

10.On Christmas morning he gives you:
  a handwritten IOU.
A really sweet card and a CD by your favourite band.
The gold bracelet you've had your eye on since June.
All of the above, and a box of your favourite chocolates.

11.When friends speak badly of him in absence, you:
don't know what you'd do - it's never happened, because they like him.
Tell them you know he may be slightly "whatever", but that aside, he really is the nicest person you know.
Join them - well, it's not like there's anything good to say about him.
Tell them they don't know what they're talking about, and you'd really like them to cool it.

12.When you have an argument, you:
don't care - it's not the be all and end all if you don't agree on everything.
Think, "what's new?" and go off to the movies with a girlfriend.
Carry on - another argument won't hurt your relationship.
Try hard not to get too upset - after all, arguments do help you to get to know each other better.
