STORY OF THE WEEK
“I stood by and watched my cheating flatmate!”
“I had been living with my two housemates, *Jen and *Adrian, for almost four months while we were all attending the same uni. Jen’s cousin lived close by so she was constantly visiting us.
After a while, I began noticing that Adrian was becoming really close to Jen’s cousin, but it was all very hush hush and he didn’t want my anyone to know what was going on. He was staying over there all the time, but claiming they were just watching movies, and were strictly “friends”.
Then one day, Jen mentioned to me that she was falling for Adrian. She confessed to me that they’d been sneaking into each others rooms and having showers together. She was really falling for him.
A little concerned, I didn’t mention my suspicions about him and her cousin, because after all, they were just suspicions.
But, a couple of weeks later I came home from uni much earlier than usual, only to walk smack into Adrian and the cousin having sex on the couch with a raunchy movie on in the background!
Talk about nightmare. After weighing it up as to whether or not I should interfere I decided that I didn’t know the full story and would just leave them all to it. However, the sneaking around between the three continued on for the next few months.
Then one day my female housemate came to me in tears confessing she was two months pregnant. She didn’t know what to do but didn’t feel that abortion was an option. Then, just a week later, Adrian came home looking worried, saying that Jen’s cousin is pregnant with his baby, and has decided to keep it. They were both pregnant, although he didn’t yet know it!!
The truth only came out when Jen and her cousin confided in each other that they were both pregnant, and discovered it was to the same man. Not only were they both disgusted with Adrian, he turned out to be a complete dud anyway. He was totally freaked out at the prospect of being a dad to one child, let alone two, so moved out and changed universities.
About six months ago Jen’s cousin moved in with us, and now the three of us, and two two year old girls who call me “auntie”, all share the same house. I still feel guilty that I didn’t step in earlier, because that way I may have saved them both from being single mums. But I can’t take back my decision, and it’s a secret they still have no idea about!”
