QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Is it best to do a cardio workout then weights or the other way around, because I'm a bit confused in that department!

With most of my clients I advise them to do 20-30 minutes of cardio activity (exercise bike, treadmill, cross trainer) prior to doing weights as in addition to improving your fitness level and burning fat, it also provides a good warmup for the muscles by elevating the heart rate and pushing more blood around the body.
Lifting weights after doing exercise may mean you can't lift as heavy a weight but it does mean you will be burning more calories as your heart rate will be elevated from the exercise you have done.
For people wanting to build muscle and strength, doing the cardio exercise prior to weights may be more beneficial.
So if it's weight loss and general fitness you are after, do the cardio exercise first, while if it's muscle and strength you desire, go with the weights first!

Head to our three month Body Makeover Challenge to say hello to a whole new you!
