Sometimes a girl is so stunning, so stylish, so darn cool, we don’t whether to love her or hate her guts. This applies to Jude Law’s gorge girlfriend Sienna Miller. Not only is she hooked up with the hottest guy on the planet, the girl is never, ever seen looking anything but cool-as. Which must be why she was voted UK Vogue’s “Best-dressed Woman” for 2004. Rather than get a voodoo doll made of Sienna, we decided to use her obvious talent to our advantage and copy her shamelessly instead.
We’ve collected everything that’s ever come out of Sienna’s mouth on style, fashion and beauty right here, so we can all end up with a Jude-like fiancee.
On dressing like Kate Moss:
Sienna’s boho-chic style has been compared to fellow super-stylish Brit, Kate Moss. On copying Kate, Sienna has said, “I know people compare me to Kate [Moss] a lot. But it’s not that I’m trying to get her look, truly not. But I like what she’s wearing and we seem to share taste to a certain extent."
On her style:
After making it onto UK Vogue’s International Best-Dressed List, Sienna described her style as, “always a little gypsyish, but it fluctuates depending on my mood. No matter what I’m wearing, I try to always make it look casual, but never arbitrary. Never ostentatious. Style is definitely a combination of place, occasion, surroundings, body and mood. And to be honest, I sometimes don’t spare either trouble or expense. Fortunately I can afford to do so now, but style doesn’t mean you have to stick to brands. The thing is, you can’t buy style and you can only slowly learn it."
On her favourite clothing labels:
It’s no secret Sienna is a big fan of vintage clothes. She also loves Seven for Mankind and Dieselfor jeans, Balenciaga, Missoni, Chloe and Mathew Williamson. But since few of us can afford to share her designer kit, we’re pleased to think we can nab her look by scouring op shops for vintage gear instead.
Sienna aslo says creativity is one of the biggest secrets to looking fab. She has said in one interview. “Take this velvet skirt. You can hitch it up, turn it into a dress, belt it, put on some cute cowboy boots and a hat, and suddenly you’ve made an outfit. You just have to add a little creativity.”
On her hair:
We’ve seen Sienna with blonde, brunette and red tresses, but whatever the shade, it’s usually scruffy, volumous, middle-parted and sixties-inspired. You can get this look by using a volumising spray at the roots of your hair, blow-drying with a large brush and working a small amount of wax through individual strands to get some texture.
You’ll also see Sienna with tiny plaits in her hair which adds a subtle boho look.
Make-up:
Sienna tends to go for natural make-up during the day, and dark, smoky eyes during the evening.
To copy Sienna’s look, start off with a light moisturiser and use a concealer to hide dark circles and redness. Brush a bronzer everywhere over your face, and apply a peachy blush to the apples of your cheeks. Sienna keeps her lips natural, so just apply a small amount of pink tinted gloss.
For daytime eyes, wear a couple of layers of mascara. For evening smoky eyes, outline the eyes with black eyeliner all the way around, sticking as close to the rims as possible. Smudge a little with a cotton bud. Apply charcoal shadow from the corners of your eyes to the crease. Make sure everywhere is blended. Add two coats of volumising mascara.
On looking sexy:
Sienna oozes sex appeal, but it in a uniquely non-skanky way. On looking sexy, she has said, “Men’s traditional view of sexiness isn’t sexy. It shouldn’t be so obvious: push-up bras and miniskirts? Sexiness, to me, is when people are comfortable with themselves.”
Sienna's Top Ten Style Tips (thanks to Italian fashion magazine, Donna)
1."Don't panic because of a new trend. Yellow, for example, was said to be hip last summer, but hardly anybody I knew wore it ... simply because most people don’t look good in yellow."
2."Clothes don’t have to be expensive. But always look out for quality. Invest in one really good basic rather than wasting money on five shabby tops."
3."The most important bit of your outfit is your shoes or your bag. If you go for plastic, you’ll always look like a cheap tourist heading for the local fake market."
4."Less is more, especially with accessories. I’ve never been into lot’s of jewellery, so that’s not a problem for me. The chandelier effect and pink plastic watches are for Barbie dolls, not real girls. I recently bought a fantastic leather belt that was not too expensive and since then, I’ve worn it like a hundred times, simply because it matches almost everything I own."
5."Go for basics. You need at least need one black skirt, one black shirt, one plain pair of jeans and a pair of high heels. The rest is up to you, but no matter what you buy later on, you can always dress-up/dress-down your basics.”
6."Simplify your life. Every piece you haven’t put on for six months, you don’t have to throw it away, but take it out of your drawer and put it into a well-closing cardboard box. And then get it out of sight. After another six months, get it back out and have a look at it again. Maybe you will want to wear it again, otherwise give it away to a charity shop. Or you might add something to it. Like pearls or leather ribbons sewn onto a plain jeans or shirt.”
7."Show what you like, hide what you don’t like. As easy as that. If you don’t like your legs, for instance, don’t wear mini-skirts. Look out for a different cut of trousers. And can somebody please stop the fuss about push-up bras? If you don’t have tits, so what? I haven’t."
8."Clever savings. I was lucky enough to be in a family where money was not a problem, but when I was in school, I still had a limited amount of pocket money to spend as my parents didn’t want me to become a silly snobbish bitch. So I always put some money aside to get my hair cut, to get my nails done and to get my shoes fixed when that was necessary. And it’s always great to know somebody who’s a hairdresser, jeweller or shop assistant ... so do you really know your neighbours?"
9."Be gracious and comfortable with yourself. It doesn’t matter whether your dress was £10 or £1000. I have so, so many things I found in flee markets or in a Topshop sale."
10. “I don’t have ANYTHING to wear!’ Well, everybody feels like that some days. Because whatever you choose, it doesn’t look as good as it should. And that’s so me. Stay at home and cancel meetings. The sun will shine tomorrow."
