 | I have such oily skin and my make-up always seems to slide off! How can I make it stay on and avoid that shiny look? |
 | Firstly, shine is a good thing, but to a degree. We no longer want that old, heavy matte look — but at the same time, we don't want a beaming, 400-watt face. The right balance is a glowy, dewy look. If you don't have it naturally — and, let's face it, most of us don't — that means we have to mop up a grease-prone complexion before applying the make-up that will give you that healthy, subtle shine. Sounds confusing? It's not once you get the hang of it. If you have very oily skin, you should be using oil-control skincare (everyone from Estée Lauder to Biotherm to Lancôme has such cleaner-toner-moisturiser line-ups). If you just get oily in patches, like the t-zone, or just in warmer times of the year, keep using your regular skincare, but layer a mattifying make-up base over your moisturiser. Chanel and Lancôme both have fab ones. Oil-control products work by holding up to four times their weight in oil, so your face stays cleaner-looking for longer. As for base, go for a liquid foundation in a long-lasting or matte formulation. New ones are lighter than ever, and don't give you that cakey, powdered look. Chanel Double Perfection Fluide Matte Reflecting Makeup and Maybelline Non Stop All Day Wear Makeup are both excellent. As for powder, keep it to a light dusting so that any later-in-the-day surface oil won't mix with excess powder to form that messy paste effect. Your best way to keep your make-up in check throughout the day is with un-powdered blotting papers. My t-zone is personally addicted to the ones by Clean & Clear and MAC.
