 | I’m going to a formal ‘do’ in a few weeks and I’d like to try the ‘smoky eyes’ look, but don’t want to look like a raccoon. Can you help with the latest look and how to achieve it? |
 | Smoky eyes have lightened up a little – think muted silvers and greys, rather than dark grey and black. Here are six steps to a sexy smoulder.
1. Start with a bare face (no foundation or base) so that if you have any eye make-up fall-out, you can wipe it off. Prepare lids with concealer, to help hold make-up for longer.
2. Etch a black pencil along the upper lashline, in close to the roots of the hairs to give the impression of more lashes, rather than an obvious black strip. Next, blacken your inner rims.
3. Using an eyeshadow brush, sweep your lid with a smoky grey (try Clinique High Impact Eye Shadow in Timeless Teal, $29). Blend through the creas using a blending brush or your fingertip.
4. Give some ‘lift’ to your look by using a fine-tipped brush or cotton bud to dab silver powder at the inner corners (try Napoleon Loose Eye Dust in Silver #34, $22). Then blend it around in a crescent shape.
5. Wiggle jet-black mascara through lashes, from base to tips. Repeat for upper and lower lashes.
6. Keep the rest of your face minimal – use concealer to hide shadows, foundation to even out skin tone, dust on a nude pink blush, then slick on a clear gloss. |
