 | Does translucent powder need to be disposed of after a certain time period? And which make up goes off after a while? |
 | While the life span of cosmetics varies, there are general rules that apply to the shelf-life of your favourite beauty products, from colour to tools. Here’s when to bin your beauty booty:
Three months Time’s up for mascara, and your loofah needs to be replaced every few months. Keep it fresh longer by rinsing in warm water then drying between uses.
One year Your nail polish will be at it’s best for 12 months – and no longer – as long as it’s stored in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed.
Two years If your pencils are sharpened often, they’ll probably last this long. Sunscreen can have a lifespan of just over two years, but always check the expiry date.
Three years Time’s up for your face powder. If pressed powder develops a hard layer, scrape it away. Loose powder won’t last as long in humid climates. The same goes for eyeshadow and powder blush.
Five years Fake tan products will give you a healthy glow for about five years, then you should bin them – although how you could have any left, we don’t know!
10+ years Your lipsticks have a long lifespan. You’ll know it’s D-day when they become sticky and tacky. If the colour changes, shave off the top and sides to uncover the original hue. |
